If your parent is a Canadian citizen, you too may be eligible to become a citizen.

Canadian citizens can pass on their citizenship to their children who were born overseas. It can be passed on to the first generation born overseas as stated in Immigration Refugees and Citizenship act (IRPA).

If your parent is a citizen, you can apply for proof of citizenship known as a Citizenship certificate. Once you have the certificate, you can enjoy the perks of being a Canadian.

Why apply for citizenship?

Citizenship gives people the opportunity to vote, work for any employer, enter politics, enjoy universal health care coverage and access other social benefits, and improve employment opportunities in Canada. The citizens also hold a Canadian passport which makes it easier for them to visit other countries. Canada also allows its citizens to )apply for dual or multiple citizenships. So you do not have to renounce your previous citizenship to obtain Canadian citizenship.
